Leonard E. James was literally born on the campus of Jackson State University in 1946.  Leonard received a B.S. in Chemistry from Jackson State in 1968 and a M.S. in Mathematical Science from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1981.  He became a Christian minister in 1981.  He has two sons, one daughter, six grandsons and three great-grandchildren.  His first wife, Bettye also had a degree in Chemistry from Jackson State, died in 2010 after 42 years of marriage.  His second wife, Florence, is a Registered Nurse.  His career spans more than 55 years as a Research Chemist, Engineer, Software Developer and Architect and Computer Consultant.  Recent ministry activities have focused on mentoring and tutoring youth.  He published a book, The Gift of a Father, in 2017 to honor his father who was a mathematics teacher who motivated his interest in technology.  His current focus is to continue to tutor and mentor young people and to encourage them to lead productive, Christian lives and to take advantage of opportunities in education and the professions and to build stable families.  He seeks to further these efforts via UCA.
